The Black Film & Video Network

AFAS: African American Studies Librarians Section
The mission of the African American Studies Librarians Section is to study librarianship and collection development as it progresses and relates to African American Studies collections .
Association for the Study of African American Life and History Established in 1915 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, we are the Founders of Black History Month and carry forth the work of our founder, the Father of Black History. Black Caucus of the American Library Association
Founded in 1970, the BCALA was organized to promote the development of library and information services for African Americans and other people of African descent.

Congressional Black Caucus of the 109th. U.S. Congress
Formed in 1970 when the 13 Black Members of the U.S. House of Representatives joined together to strengthen their efforts to address the legislative concerns of Black and minority citizens.
NAACP
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the oldest, largest and strongest civil rights organization in the United States.

National Association of Black Telecommunications Professionals, Inc. Designed with a specific emphasis on the African American community, this organization strives to be the premier source of education and information regarding the telecommunications industry for its members, interfacing organizations, and the public.
USCCB Secretariat for African American Catholics
The officially recognized voice of the African American Catholic community as it articulates their needs, aspirations regarding ministry, evangelization, social justice issues, and worship.
The National Coalition on Black Civic Participation
A leader in the nationwide effort to increase black voter registration and turnout and to eradicate the barriers to full political participation for African Americans and other minorities.
National Council of Negro Women, Inc.
A non-profit voluntary service organization with 34 national affiliated constituency based organizations and 250 community based sections, NCNW has an outreach to over four million women . It was founded in 1935 by noted educator and human rights activist Mary McLeod Bethune.
Organization of Black Airline Pilots
On September 17th and 18th of 1976, thirty-seven of the airline industry's approximately 80 black pilots convened at the O'Hare Hilton Hotel in Chicago. As a result of that meeting, The Organization of Black Airline Pilots (OBAP) was born. From the outset OBAP has focused its greatest emphasis on preparing young people to realize a successful future and highlight the exciting potential available in aviation.
Organization of Black Screenwriters, Inc.
OBS began in 1988 to address the lack of black writers represented within the entertainment industry. Its primary function is to assist screenwriters in the creation of works for film and television and to help them
present their work.

The Selig Center for Economic Growth, part of the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia gives studies and forecasts into African American buying power. Statistics are also included for Asian and Hispanic buying power for comparison or study as well as a total population assessment.

Mathematicians of the African Diaspora
The Mathematicians of the African Diaspora website was created and is maintained by Scott W. Williams, Professor of Mathematics at The State University of New York at Buffalo. This site examines the premise that African Americans with an emphasis on mathematics, are incapable of such scientific knowledge.

"The Chosen One"
By Gwendolyn Briley-Strand Ms. Briley-Strand performs a one woman show called "The Chosen One" based on the life of Harriet Tubman. Biographical information on the life of Harriet Tubman is presented as a tribute to the legend. See also the Harriet Tubman Collection.
